Simone Biles will carry the flag for the United States Olympic group amid the ending ceremony in Rio Sunday. Biles, who won four gold medals in gymnastics at these Games, was picked by her Team U.S.A. members in a vote. She becomes the second acrobat to serve as the United States flag-carrier after Alfred Jochim led the team during the opening function in 1936.
“This experience has been the dream of a lifetime for my team and me, and I consider it a privilege to represent my country,” said Biles, who fueled the U.S. gymnastic team to a nine-medal haul in Rio.
Swimmer Michael Phelps was the U.S. flag-bearer for the opening ceremony.
