President Donald Trump railed against Senate rules requiring 60 votes to overcome a filibuster in a series of tweets Saturday morning, just a day after the chamber dealt a devastating setback to the GOP effort to repeal and replace Obamacare.

“Republicans in the Senate will NEVER win if they don’t go to a 51 vote majority NOW,” Trump tweeted. “They look like fools and are just wasting time.”

Sens. John McCain, Lisa Murkowski and Susan Collins joined with Democrats to contradict a “skinny repeal” of Obamacare early Friday morning, a noteworthy hit to Trump and the Republicans’ congressional plan.

Trump raged at the misfortune after the vote, tweeting that the three Republicans “let the American people down,” connecting them to the Democrats who were consistently against the plan.

Current Senate decides command that 60 legislators – three-fifths of the 100-part Senate – must concur to end open deliberation and push ahead to a vote on a measure or bit of legislation — a process known as invoking cloture.

While the Senate has summoned the alleged “nuclear option” in the past to get certain designations – most as of late of note Supreme Court candidate Neil Gorsuch – through the chamber by a basic larger part vote, there is right now no method for doing so with legislation.

Republicans have instead opted to try to pass tax reform and health care through a process known as reconciliation, which applies to budgetary measures and requires only 51 votes. The procedure enables administrators to vote on basic bits of the health law without allowing Democrats to delay. However, like this it puts substantial limitations on individuals – including restricting open deliberation to just 20 hours and just utilizing the procedure to change laws that have been evaluated by the Congressional Budget Office, which means those that cost cash or are implemented as taxes.

Trump addressed his concerns about the Senate process in his tweets on Saturday.

“Republican Senate must get rid of 60 votes NOW!” Trump tweeted. “It is killing the R Party, allows 8 Dems to control country. 200 Bills sit in Senate. A JOKE!”

“The very outdated filibuster rule must go,” he continued. “Budget reconciliation is killing R’s in Senate. Mitch M, go to 51 Votes NOW and WIN. IT’S TIME!”

What’s more, not long after that, Trump posted: “If the Senate Democrats ever got the chance, they would switch to a 51 majority vote in first minute. They are laughing at R’s. MAKE CHANGE!”

This isn’t the first run through Trump has taken to Twitter to urge the Senate to change its principles. In May, Trump required the race of “more Republican Senators in 2018 or change the rules now to 51%.”
