President Trump has expelled chief White House strategist Stephen Bannon from his role on the National Security Council (NSC), a senior White House official confirmed.
Bannon in January was raised to a position on the NSC principals board of trustees, in a shakeup of the committee. The administrator of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Executive of national knowledge had their parts downsized in the move.
The Joint Chiefs chairman and insight executive are having their parts on the principal’s board of trustees reestablished, as per an official recording dated Tuesday.
Bannon said in an announcement to the Wall Street Journal: “Susan Rice operationalized the NSC during the last administration. I was put on to ensure that it was de-operationalized. General McMaster has returned the NSC to its proper function.”
Bloomberg initially revealed the move Wednesday morning.
